
Hanks in his next role - the astronaut and commando Jim Lovell, in the docudrama Apollo 13 (1995) - was his first time reuniting with Ron Howard. The performances in the film and Kevin Bacon's performance in general were highly praised by reviewers. The film also earned nine Academy Award nominations, winning two. In the following year, Hanks starred in Disney/Pixar's computer-animated film Toy Story (1995), as the voice of Sheriff Woody. The following year, Hanks made his directorial debut in the musical comedy That Thing You Do! (1996) that chronicles the rise and fall of a pop group from the 1960s and also a role of a producer. Time magazine's Richard Schickel described his performance as "charming" and the majority of reviewers agreed with the fact that Hanksacting performance earned him a spot among the top romantic comedy actors of his time.
